The Metropolitan Golf Club, one of Melbourne's renowned 'sandbelt' courses and widely regarded as one of the finest championship courses in Australia, is a private members Club located approximately 20 minutes from the city centre. Limited playing times are available to interstate and overseas visitors.

Metropolitan enjoys a reputation as one of the best-conditioned and most beautiful courses in the country.  Pure couch grass fairways with large, fast bent-grass greens that are hand-mown to the edges of the greenside bunkers add greatly to the challenge of the course.  In total there are 96 bunkers and almost every hole is flanked by huge stands of Australian native trees which provide sanctuary to many species of native birds.

METRO RANKED NUMBER 53 IN THE LATEST U.S GOLF DIGEST WORLD RANKINGS
In the May 2007 edition of US Golf Digest magazine Metro has been ranked number 53 in the best 100 courses outside the USA.  These rankings are conducted every two years by a team of international panellists, interestingly Metro is the only Australian course from the 2005 rankings that has improved its ranking in 2007 - up from number 66.  Just five Australian courses are ranked lower than Metro and two of these, the Royal Melbourne Composite Course and the Packer family Ellerston course, cannot be played by regular golfers.

If you are a member of an interstate or overseas golf club and would like to play at Metro, click on the "Bookings" link above and make a request by email - limited playing times are generally available on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays.

METRO ONE OF ADAM SCOTT'S FAVOURITE COURSES
In the March 2006 edition of the Australian Golf Digest magazine Adam Scott names Metro as one of his favourite Australian courses with the following comments... "I find it difficult to separate Royal Melbourne's composite course, Kingston Heath and Metropolitan in terms of choosing Australia's best layout.  They're my three favourites on the famous sandbelt and nationally I see them sitting ahead of every other Australian course."
