Metropolitan was proud to host the 2023 Victorian Amputee Golf Championship this week. 25 amputee competitors from around Australia battled it out over two rounds, many having little to no previous @melbournesandbelt experience, and relishing the opportunity!

Firm, challenging conditions tested their skills, as they peppered championship pins and showed their class. Prizes were on offer across three categories and tight battles ensued.

Congratulations to winners Rance Dorrington (Stableford) and Shaun Bakker (Nett) but it was @metropolitangolfclub own Mike Rolls who was crowned the 2023 champion!

Metro is a proud supporter of all abilities golf, and more specifically, golfers who experience limb loss. Events like this have an enormous positive impact on the lives of people who live with limb loss.

The 2023 Brian Twite Trainee Pro-Am was a huge success, with sincere thanks to @metropolitangolfclub PGA Associate Oliver Pearson's event management skills.

Metropolitan Life Member Brian Twite OAM was on hand - at 97 years young - to hit the honorary 1st tee shot, receiving a rousing applause from all who were fortunate to witness it! Brian was Metro's Head Professional from 1955 to 1994, yes that's 40 years, and we were thrilled that so many young professionals were able to learn from his wisdom today, experience his passion for golf, and honour his remarkable commitment to the game.

Congratulations to @joelmitchpga_rgc who fired an impressive 3-under par 69 in challenging conditions, to win by a shot from @jack.harrison011

Well done to @pgaofaustralia for another fabulous Associate Professional event, building pathways for the next generation in our industry.

It's going to be a busy summer at @metropolitangolfclub as we commence Stage 1 of the Greens Replacement Program (GRP) and continue with the Course Enhancement Plan (CEP). Host of the @pgatour 2018 World Cup of Golf, numerous Australian Open, the Accenture World Matchplay, and many more iconic events, Metropolitan is consistently regarded as Australia's finest year-round conditioned course - some say, in the world.

From December 2023 to February 2024, Stage 1 of the GRP/CEP includes the front 9 holes.

The GRP will focus on the subsurface of our greens, significantly improving drainage, reducing organic buildup caused by decades of sand splash, and allowing more pinnable areas to tight corners... yes, those remarkable 'Sunday' pins are set to return at Metro. And because the greens' surface turf will in effect be relaid, the magic, fast, and true roll that Metro is renowned for, won't have changed a bit!

The CEP element will see strategic design improvements to a number of front nine holes including 3, 6, 7, and 9, enhancing the course for elite golfers through to slow-swing players. Of primary importance will be the reinstatement of some of Metropolitan's historic design features... extremely exciting!

We have been pleased to work with Course Architect @craftermogford Paul Mogford and the brilliant Henry Peters @underthecard in releasing an introductory video for Stage 1, exclusively for our members to enjoy.

We look forward to seeing Stage 1 commence, and to Stage 2 next summer, wrapping it all up in style by March 2025.

Taking the @melbournesandbelt to even greater heights, Metropolitan looks forward to keeping you posted as this significant project unfolds.

Congratulations to Metropolitan members Bridget McDonald and Andrew McDonald who won the 15th World Invitational Father & Daughter Tournament at Waterville Golf Links, with an incredible 95 points!

As a relatively new golfer, Bridget is completely enamored with the game, and golf certainly runs deep in the McDonald family... Bridget's grandmother / Andrew's mother, Jane, is a Life Member of Metropolitan!

Congratulations to @metropolitangolfclub member @lukasmichel ... 2023 Portsea Open Amateur Champion!

Lukas shone in the tough conditions, particularly over the 36-hole final day of play. Lukas's 282 total was three shots clear of runner-up and fellow Metro member @ben.henkel181

Young star Seabil Leong finished in fourth place in the women's field.

In all, Metropolitan had 12 members contest this prestigious amateur event, as well as four juniors from our Scholarship program. Congratulations to all.

The Metropolitan Golf Club is pleased to welcome applications for the 2023/2024 Junior Golf Scholarship Program.

In the past 15 years, 190 scholarships have been awarded, many of the recipients going on to become Metropolitan members including tournament professionals @suohgolf & @todd.sinnott

Junior Golf Scholarships at Metropolitan provide for complimentary use of the course and facilities for 12 months, together with an organized golf skills program provided by the Club’s PGA-qualified coaches, including @stuartleonggolf (Australian @pgaofaustralia Teacher of the Year 2015).

The Metropolitan Golf Club Foundation is proud to assist with Joining Fee support for Scholarship holders who are nominated for membership.

Open to male and female applicants aged 12-16 years inclusive as at 1st July 2023, please note that the age range is strictly observed.

What a fun Twilight event. It's the annual 'dog day' @metropolitangolfclub complete with gorgeous pooches, happy members, even some toys, treats prepared by our Chefs, and 'Pawsecco'! One of our four-legged friends @_atlastheaussie_ has 21.4K Insta followers!

After golf, twilight dining is alfresco on the Clubhouse lawns, sumptuously prepared by our Chefs and complete with festoon lighting for more doggie fun. No wonder our members love this event. You must come next year @dottie_pepper

Happy New Year! From all @metropolitangolfclub may it be a year of great golf, friendship, and new adventures.

A new year, and some new growth to the native plantations on the tee carry on the par 4, 5th hole. The variation in colour is incredible and truly showcases what is the real icon of the @melbournesandbelt ...the sand!

This hole has it all, changes in elevation from tee to green, traditional bunkering - including a strategically placed fairway grass bunker - carry options from the tee, even a lay-up option for the longer marker not yet confident to take on the challenging green complex where the greenside bunkering has razor-sharp edges!

We love the 5th - it typifies the beauty, class, and challenge of Metropolitan. We hope you do too. Here's to 2023.

The Brian Twite Coaching Pavilion @metropolitangolfclub celebrates its first birthday today! One year ago the doyen of golf coaching Brian Twite OAM cut the ribbon and struck the ceremonial tee shot, officially opening our state-of-the-art teaching facility... aptly named in honor of Brian. Hundreds of members enjoyed the festivities, shared in a round on 'Metro Mini', and laughed heartily at his many tales from decades of teaching and playing golf, all there to support Brian in what is fondly remembered as a great Club day!

Metropolitan member @david_micheluzzi has started the 22/23 Summer of Golf in style, breaking through for his maiden professional tour win, with a stunning three-stroke victory in the @pgaofaustralia WA PGA Championship at the Kalgoorlie Golf Club.

Joining @metropolitangolfclub in 2014 Dave featured high in the order of Division 1 Pennant flag-winning performances over the years. With a stellar amateur career, including multiple @golfaust Interstate Series team wins with fellow Metro members @lukasmichel @blake_collyer1 and @aidendidone Dave was the 2017 Victorian Amateur Champion and 2018 Australian Master of the Amateurs Champion.

Like many young stars who turned pro in the covid-era, it's been a tough few years, and the Club couldn't be happier for Dave, winning in WA.
